Tashlich - Have you wondered what all those people were doing at the beach throwing bread into the water? The afternoon service on Rosh Hashanah, called “Tashlich” is a symbolic way of throwing our sins away. The image of being “washed clean” is an ancient metaphor, and a live body of water is a tangible way of watching our mistakes disappear. The Hebrew word literally means to “send away”.  We welcome you on the beach as we state what “sin” we are letting go of, and support one another in the desire to change behaviors that don’t serve us or the people we love. Join the South Bay Jewish Community to wash those sins away together! Meet at the Manhattan Beach Pier at 5:00 pm on October 3rd, please bring bread to symbolically toss away your sins.

Yizkor Memorial BookletYizkor is the traditional memorial service on Yom Kippur to honor the memory of our loved ones who have passed on. The Yizkor service occurs at the conclusion of the Yom Kippur morning service with the lighting of memorial candles. We are preparing a Yizkor Memorial Booklet which will contain the names of those being remembered. A donation of $18 is requested for each listings. To include your loved one in the book and have their name be added to the Temple Shalom Yahrtzeits list, please complete the form below.

Neilah - The final service of Yom Kippur, the day of Atonement, is called Neilah and literally means, “the closing of the gates”. This closing service will be an intimate, introspective discussion with Rabbi Toba August at our Temple location. We “break the fast” with a light meal together and it is delightful to share this time with friends. This is a free service to all who have tickets for the Yom Kippur service. Looking inward to find...yourself. Be joyfully surprised at what you discover!

Children's Service/Childcare - Located in the Education Building, free Childcare is available from 9:45am to 12:30pm during the morning services only. Available for children ages 2 to 7 years old, there will be toys, crafts and light snacks. All children must be signed in and out by an adult. While there is no charge, pre-registration is required for planning purposes.

A High Holiday Children's Service will be held on both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, also in the Education Building from 10am to 12:30pm. Led by Andrew Fromer, this service is geared to kids in Kindergarten to 5th grade.  This is a special, age appropriate, interactive service explores the theme of the Holidays. The Children's High Holiday Service is available free of charge for Temple Shalom members or with a paid adult ticket, however for planning purposes, pre-registration is required. Rabbi August invites children in the 5th grade and older to attend Adult Services
